CHP: Man arrested after fleeing from officers, crashing near Mt. SAC

WALNUT — A Glendale man was behind bars Wednesday after escaping California Highway Patrol officers who were trying to arrest him and leading them on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash near Mt. SAC, authorities said.
Scott Miller, 42, was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run, resisting or obstructing police and speeding, with additional charges, including drug-related crimes, potentially pending, CHP Officer Kerri Rivas said in a written statement.
A CHP officer saw Miller driving about 80 mph in a Dodge Challenger on the westbound 10 Freeway at Garey Avenue in Pomona shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Rivas said.
The officer pulled Miller over, and both the Dodge and the patrol car exited the freeway and stopped along Kellog Drive, beneath the freeway, officials said.
A drug-sniffing dog made a “hit” on the Dodge, Rivas said.
“(An officer) attempted to place Mr. Miller into custody and he became combative with officers,” Rivas said. “(The) K-9 was deployed and bit Mr. Miller on the arm and shin. Mr. Miller proceeded to enter his vehicle and drove off.”
An on-duty detective from a neighboring law enforcement agency saw the Dodge get involved in a multi-car, non-injury crash in the intersection of Grand and Temple avenues in Walnut, according to the CHP.
Miller then fled the crash scene and foot, prompting officials to set up a search perimeter, Rivas said. With the help of a CHP K-9, Miller was found hiding in a storm drain beneath the soccer field at Mt. SAC.
Officials took Miller to a hospital to be treated for his dog bite injuries before he was booked into jail, Rivas said.
He was being held without bail pending his initial court appearance, county booking records showed.
