UPDATED: La Puente man killed in shooting outside liquor store

LA PUENTE — A La Puente man died at a hospital late Wednesday after he was shot in a liquor store parking lot, authorities said.
The name of the man, who was in his 40s, was not released Thursday pending confirmation that his family had been notified, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Assistant Chief of Operations Ed Winter said.
The shooting took place just after 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot of K & B Liquor, in the 400 block of South Azusa Avenue, north of Valley Boulevard, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Joe Chavez said. The victim was shot twice.
The victim had just bought some items from the store and exited when he was confronted by the attacker, described as a Latino man between 30 and 35 years old, with short hair and wearing a gray T-shirt, Lt. Eddie Hernandez of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said.
“We have witnesses who heard some kind of argument between the victim and the suspect, then they reported hearing a couple of gunshots,” the lieutenant said.
The shooter is believed to have fled the area on foot, he added. No getaway car was seen.
It was not clear Thursday what they men may have argued about prior to the shooting.
“We’re looking into those aspects of the shooting; Whether they knew each other, whether there’s any gang affiliation on either the victim or the suspect,” Hernandez said.
Detectives were checking area surveillance camera footage for clues, he said.
The shooter purchased items at the liquor store prior to the killing and was caught on the store’s surveillance camera, however the images were of low quality, Hernandez said.
Hernandez encouraged members of the public to help in the investigation.
“We encourage anybody who may have been in the area and seen something to provide us with any information they may have,” the lieutenant said. “Whether they think it’s important or not, we want to talk to them.”
