UPDATED: CHP: Driver shoots at officer during chase on 60 Freeway

A man shot at a California Highway Patrol officer during a pursuit on the 60 Freeway, striking a patrol car but not injuring the officer inside, before being taken into custody Saturday, authorities said.
Officers from the CHP’s Inland Division had been chasing a Range Rover SUV westbound on the 60 Freeway when it reached the San Gabriel Valley shortly before 2 p.m., CHP Officer Christian Cracraft said. It was not clear where the chase started or why the man was being chased.
The driver opened fire on a CHP officer as the chase reached the area of Fullerton Road in Rowland Heights, officials said.
A bullet ruptured the fuel tank of a patrol car, but the officer was not injured, Cracraft said.
Officers continued chasing the Range Rover until it stopped in traffic lanes at Hacienda Boulevard, he said.
“After a short standoff he surrendered,” Cracraft said.
All westbound lanes of the freeway were shut down in the area for more than two hours as officials investigated the crime scene.
No further details were immediately available.
