Glendora man pleads no contest to molesting 12-year-old girl

POMONA — A Glendora man accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl pleaded no contest Tuesday at his initial court appearance and was immediately sentenced to state prison, authorities said.
Jami Jess Ortiz, 39, entered a no contest plea to a charge of committing a lewd act on a child in Pomona Superior Court, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s spokeswoman Jane Robison said.
A charge of continuous sexual abuse against Ortiz was dismissed, and Pomona Superior Court Judge Mike Camacho immediately sentenced him to six years in state prison, Robison said.
Police arrested Ortiz Saturday afternoon after his girlfriend arrived home in the 600 block of South Scott Place and discovered him engaged in a sex act with a 12-year-old girl, according to Glendora police Lt. Scott Strong. Neighbors assisted police by detaining Ortiz so he couldn’t leave the scene before officers arrived.
Ortiz will be required to serve his time in state prison, as he his not eligible to serve it in county jail under the state prison realignment program, Robison said.
By California law, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life upon his release from prison.
