WHITTIER — One person suffered stab wounds Wednesday following what witnesses described as a large gang fight at Penn Park, officials said.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing about 7:45 p.m. at the park, 13900 Penn Street, Whittier police Sgt. Willie Lawson said.

They found a victim, a Montebello resident whose age was not available, suffering from two stab wounds to his torso, Lawson said. He was taken to a hospital where he was expected to survive.

“Witnesses reported it was a large gang fight,” the sergeant said.

No suspect description was available.
