Suspect flees deputies, but arrested after answering door near Whittier

A man with a gun fled from deputies and hid in an apartment complex Thursday. But he got caught when deputies came knocking and he answered the door.
“He was arrested without incident,” Sheriff’s Lt. Josie Woolum said.
She added that deputies also found the loaded handgun the man dropped earlier.
It started at 8:30 p.m. when a deputy pulled over a car on Gunn Avenue which is in the unincorporated county area near Whittier.
She said the driver got out and started to run away. The deputy saw the man had a gun.
The culprit fled to a complex in the 10000 block of Gunn Avenue.
Deputies closed off the area.
Woolum said they discovered the driver has relatives at the complex.
He was found at the relative’s apartment.
Adrian Romero, 28, of Whittier was arrested on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Woolum said he also had three outstanding warrants for narcotics violations.
Romero was booked at the sheriff’s Norwalk Station jail and his bail was set at $35,000.
