A driver accused of making death threats against relatives led deputies on a pursuit then crashed into a parked car Thursday.

Lt. Josie Woolum of the sheriff’s Norwalk station said the driver and his passenger were arrested. Two loaded handguns the suspects allegedly tossed during the chase were also found.

Deputies were looking for the man after he allegedly threatened to kill an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man related to him in the 14000 block of Trumball Street that afternoon.

Woolum said the suspect allegedly displayed a gun during the domestic dispute and hit the woman with his vehicle as he was driving away.

The woman wasn’t seriously injured and wasn’t taken to a hospital, she added.

The victims told deputies the suspect was known to carry a handgun.

Deputies saw the suspect’s car, a 2005 Toyota Avalon, around 8:45 p.m. in the 12000 block of Carmenita Road in an unincorporated county area near Whittier. They tried to pull it over but the driver didn’t stop.

The chase ended in the 15600 block of Leffingwell Road when the suspect struck a parked car.

The driver and passenger ran to the back of a nearby apartment but were caught, Woolum said.

She said residents who saw the suspects throw the guns called the station during the chase. Both weapons were found in the 14000 block of Tedford Drive.

Carlos Garcia, 28, of Whittier was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, felony evading police and brandishing a firearm.

His passenger, 19-year-old Jessie Gulakowski of Bellflower, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen firearm.

The two men were being held at the sheriff’s Norwalk station jail.

Garcia’s bail is $50,000 while Gulakowski’s bail is $35,000.
