Two suspected of DUI following Whittier checkpoint

WHITTIER — Police made two arrests for suspected intoxicated driving during a checkpoint overnight late Friday and early Saturday, officials said.
A total of 913 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was held overnight at Mulberry Drive and Santa Fe Springs Road, Whittier police Lt. Bryan Ellis said.
Five drivers were given field sobriety tests, resulting in the two DUI arrests, the lieutenant said. One other person was arrested for a non-DUI-related issue, however further details were not available.
Officers wrote 19 tickets to motorists and impounded six vehicles during the checkpoint, Ellis added.
