Man and woman suspected of Uptown Whittier robbery

WHITTIER — Police jailed two suspect and sought one more after a man was robbed of his bicycle early Saturday, officials said.
Jimmy Leon Lerma, 35, of Whittier and Veronica Garcia, 33, of unincorporated Whittier were booked on suspicion of robbery following the 1:19 a.m. heist on Philadelphia Street, near Pickering Avenue, Whittier police Lt. Jay Tatman said.
A 29-year-old man was riding his bicycle when two men and a woman pulled up in a car, got out and demanded property, including his bike, police said. One of the robbers was armed with a handgun.
The victim ran from the robbers and called for help, leaving behind his bicycle, Tatman said. He was not injured.
Officers responding to the robbery spotted a car matching the description of the one used by the suspects and pulled it over, the lieutenant said.
Inside were Lerma and Garcia, who were identified by the victim as two of the three robbers, he said. The third robber, described only as a Latino man, was not found.
According to county booking records, Lerma was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail pending his initial court appearance, while Garcia was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
