UPDATED: Man fatally shot in Norwalk’s second homicide in three days

A man died after being shot in Norwalk early Sunday in the city’s second reported homicide in three days, officials said.
The shooting was believed to have taken place about 2:30 a.m. in the 14400 block of Dinard Avenue, just south of Rosecrans Ave., according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials.
The man, whose name was not released pending positive identification and notification of family members, was pronounced dead at a local hospital about 3 a.m., Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Lt. Cheryl MacWillie.
“The victim was standing outside the location when a truck drove up,” Deputy Don Walker of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau said. “Two male Hispanic (men) got out of the truck and fired multiple rounds at the victim. The victim was struck by the gunfire.”
The truck sped away in an unknown direction, and friends of the wounded man to a hospital, where he died.
Officials initially described the shooting as apparently gang-related.
Sunday morning’s slaying came two days after the fatal stabbing and beating death of Denise Battey, 50, of Norwalk, whose body was discovered shortly before 4 a.m. Friday inside a home in the 11900 block of Allard Street, MacWillie said.
Neighbors became concerned about her and asked deputies to check on her when her body was found, the lieutenant said.
An autopsy concluded she died from multiple stab wounds and blunt force injuries, MacWillie said.
The sheriff’s department released no further information regarding the circumstances of Battey’s killing.
