Good Samaritan stabbed while intervening in argument at park in Arcadia

ARCADIA — A Good Samaritan was stabbed in the chest, back and arm early Sunday after intervening in an argument between a man and woman at Eisenhower Park, police said.
Officers happened to be at the hospital for an unrelated investigation when they saw family members bring the wounded man, a 43-year-old Arcadia resident, into the emergency room with stab wounds, according to Arcadia police Lt. Mike Castro.
The victim reported that he was exercising at Eisenhower Park, on 2nd Avenue just north of the 210 Freeway, shortly after midnight when he came upon a man and woman arguing, the lieutenant said. He intervened, bringing a stop to the argument.
“As the victim was walking away, he was rushed from behind and felt what he described as a poke on his back,” Castro said.
“The victim turned around and the suspect stabbed the victim in the chest,” he said. “The victim put up his left arm to defend from being stabbed again, but the suspect slashed the victim’s arm.”
The attacker fled into the park, police said. He was described as a Latino man in his 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 140 pounds, with short dark hair and a thin beard with no mustache. He wore dark-colored jeans, a long-sleeve red T-shirt and a backpack.
