Whittier search warrant yields more than 700 pounds of pot, hallucinogenic mushrooms, assault weapons

WHITTIER — Whittier police raided a home earlier this week and arrested the resident after discovering marijuana plants, hallucinogenic mushrooms and a dozen guns including two assault rifles, police said.
Loren Bates, 48, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sales and possession of an illegal assault weapon, following Tuesday’s 7:40 a.m. search warrant in the 6300 block of Broadway, according to Whittier police officials.
He was released later in the day after posting $20,000 bail, county booking records show.
Narcotics detectives seized more than 700 pounds of marijuana plants, 1.4 pounds of hallucinogenic mushrooms, four handguns, six shotgun, two assault rifles and a large amount of ammunition, Lt. Randy Inman said.
