UPDATED: Man accused of biting off portion of brother-in-law’s ear in La Canada Flintridge

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE — A man is accused of biting a portion of his brother-in-law’s ear off Saturday during a dispute, authorities said.
Paramedics and deputies responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. to the alleged attack in the 1800 block of Foothill Boulevard, just west of Hillard Avenue, Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Richard Bodmer said.
They found a man in his 30s who had the top portion of his ear bitten off, the captain said. The missing portion of ear, which was about the size of a dime, was recovered and sent to the hospital along with the injured man in hopes doctors could reattach it.
Deputies arrested the suspect, who appeared to be in his late 20s, nearby, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Galbraith said.
Ken Hosoda, 26, was booked on suspicion of mayhem, legally defined as disabling, disfiguring or otherwise maiming another person, according to Lt. Angela Shepherd.
It was unclear what the men argued about that led up to the alleged attack.
According to county booking records, Hosoda was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail pending his initial court appearance.
