Authorities identify victim of fatal shooting in Whittier

Detectives identified the man shot to death in broad daylight Monday as a 20-year-old Whittier man.

The 4:29 p.m. shooting happened in the 6000 block of Norwalk Blvd. which is in the unincorporated county area of West Whittier.

Sgt. Troy Ewing of the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said Joseph Garcia was walking on Norwalk Boulevard when a man wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt approached and shot him.

The suspect fled.

Ewing said the shooting happened in front of a liquor store. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene, he added.

Detectives are looking for witnesses.

Ewing said the suspect was only described as a Latino wearing a hooded sweatshirt.
