Whittier man shot in the head Monday expected to survive


WHITTIER — A Whittier man was shot in the head around 5 a.m. Monday in the 12900 block of Mcgee Drive.

John Tejos, 46, was taken to Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital shortly after the shooting occurred and was released today, Whittier police officials said. Tejos is expected to recover.

PIH contacted Whittier Police and notified them of a victim who had been treated for a non-life threatening head wound from an unknown caliber weapon.

According to police officials, a single bullet was fired at Tejos’ head in his backyard.

Detectives do not know what inititated the confrontation and believe it may be gang-related.

“We’re not sure if there were witnesses,” Lt. Steve Dean said.

Police do not have anyone in custody and no vehicles were seen leaving the area.
No description of the suspect is available at this time.
