Authorities seek clues in Whittier man’s slaying

WHITTIER — Sheriff’s investigators sought the public’s help Wednesday for clues into the slaying of a 20-year-old Whittier man who was shot to death earlier this week.
Joseph Garcia died at the scene of Monday’s 4:30 p.m. shooting in the 6000 block of Norwalk Boulevard, near Whittier Boulevard, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials.
No suspects had been identified Wednesday afternoon, Sgt. Jeff Cochran of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said.
Cochran said there were likely additional witnesses who had yet to share their information with sheriff’s officials.
“That’s a pretty busy area. We only have a small number of witnesses who have provided any type of useful information,” Cochran said.
The shooter was described Wednesday only as a Latino man wearing a dark-colored, hooded sweat shirt.
“We’re asking for the public’s assistance with any information on this case,” he added.
The circumstances of the shooting remained under investigation, though the killing was being investigated as possibly gang-related, the sergeant said.
Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
