Two injured in possible street racing crash in West Covina

WEST COVINA — Police said a driver may have been racing another vehicle when his car crashed into trees Thursday night.
The driver, an 18-year-old West Covina man, and his passenger, an 18-year-old West Covina woman, sustained major injuries, according to West Covina police Lt. Ken Plunkett.
The collision on Nogales Street near Shadow Oak Drive was reported at 9:41 p.m.
Plunkett said a black Integra was possibly racing a second car southbound on Nogales Street when the Integra lost control, hit two trees in the center divider and wrapped around a third tree.
The passenger got trapped and was extricated by West Covina firefighters. Plunkett said the woman was flown by helicopter to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center while the driver was taken by ambulance to the same hospital.
It took officials more than half an hour to free the injured woman from the wreckage, West Covina Fire Department Capt. Esteban Rodriguez said.
There was no description of the other car or its driver.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call West Covina Police at 626-939-8500.
