Manhole covers stolen from streets in Baldwin Park

BALDWIN PARK — Police asked members of the public to keep their eyes peeled following the disappearance of two manhole covers in the same Baldwin Park neighborhood.
The first manhole cover theft was discovered about 4 p.m. Friday in the 4200 block of Monterey Avenue after a truck’s wheel became stuck in the uncovered manhole, Baldwin Park police Sgt. Mark Harvey said. The truck was not significantly damaged.
Sometime either late Friday or early Saturday, a second manhole disappeared from the 13300 block of Morgan Street, less that half a mile away.
“We’re assuming they were taken for metal recycling,” Harvey said.
Anyone with information, or anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to contact Baldwin Park police at 626-960-1955.
