ARCADIA — For the second time in two days, a downed power line sparked a brush fire in Arcadia Saturday, authorities said.

Firefighters responded about 3:10 p.m. to a report of a vegetation fire in the 700 block of San Luis Rey Road, According to Arcadia Fire Department Battalion Chief Barry Spriggs.

The fire remained small but burned in, “a hard to access area between residences, the Metro Goldline right of way and the East Bound 210 Freeway,” Spriggs said in a written statement.

With help from Los Angeles County, Pasadena and United States Forest Service firefighters, the fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes, he said.

Investigators determined a downed power line appeared to have caused the fire, Spriggs said. No structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported.

A similar incident unfolded just after 2 p.m. Friday, when a downed power line ignited a small vegetation fire between two houses in the 1000 block of Greenfield Avenue, according to AFD spokeswoman Beth Stogner.

Firefighters knocked down Friday’s small fire in about 10 minutes, however the downed line also resulted in a power outage that affected a significant portion of the city, including the Westfield Santa Anita shopping mall, City Hall and the Methodist Hospital.
