Man wounded in Baldwin Park shooting

BALDWIN PARK — A man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in a gang-related shooting Thursday afternoon, police said.
A 22-year-old known gang member from Baldwin Park was walking in the area of Los Angeles Street and Bogart Avenue with another young man about 2 p.m. when they were approached by a white Dodge Stratus, Baldwin Park police Sgt. Mark Harvey said.
There was an exchange of words between the pedestrians and at least one person inside the car, the sergeant said. Though it was unclear what was said, “Gang signs were seen,” he added.
Someone inside the car opened fire at least twice, striking the victim in the thigh, police said. The wounded man was taken to a hospital, and the injury was not considered to be life-threatening.
A description of the person or people in the car was not available, Harvey said. Officers received conflicting witness reports regarding how many occupants were inside.
The investigation was ongoing.
