Pasadena couple accused of threatening, trying to rob repo man

PASADENA — Police arrested a Pasadena husband and wife after they threatened and tried to rob a tow truck driver who was repossessing their car, authorities said.
Jermain Mendez, 30, was booked on suspicion of robbery, while his wife Ayana Mendez, 31, was booked on suspicion of making criminal threats following the 8:53 a.m. incident in the 500 block of Orange Grove Place, Pasadena police Sgt. Michael Bugh said.
The tow truck driver was trying to repossess the couple’s car, and they became angry, the sergeant said.
Mendez reached into the tow truck driver’s pocket and tried to take the keys to the tow truck, resulting in a physical scuffle, Bugh said.
Meanwhile, Ayana Mendez threatened to retrieve a gun and shoot the tow truck driver, he said.
Police arrived on scene before things escalated further and arrested the couple, Bugh said.
