UPDATED: Man killed, another wounded in Baldwin Park shooting

BALDWIN PARK — One man died and another was hospitalized in critical condition early Friday following what authorities called a gang-related shooting early Friday.
The dead man’s name was not released pending positive identification and notification of his family, coroners officials said. Sheriff’s officials initially described him as a Baldwin Park man in his early 20s.
The shooting took place just after 1 a.m. in the 3800 block of Maine Avenue, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.
Baldwin Park police responded to 9-1-1 call reporting a shooting, Lt. John Corina of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said.
“When officers got here, they found a car that had been shot up and some individuals inside it who were shot,” Corina said.
One of the men was taken to a hospital where he died from his wounds, officials said.
Another man, also believed to be a Baldwin Park man in his early 20s, was critically injured in the shooting but stabilized at a hospital, while a 16-year-old Baldwin Park boy who accompanied them in the car escaped injury, Corina said.
The shooting took place in the 3800 block of Maine Avenue, however the wounded men were found outside their vehicle, which was parked around the corner on Paddy Lane, Corina said.
Two cars and one house along Maine Avenue were struck by gunfire, he added.
“From what we can determine, their was a car-to-car shooting, maybe a car chase, shooting from one car to another,” Corina said.
The motive appeared to be gang-related, he added.
A gun was found near the shooting victims, though the lieutenant declined to say exactly where it was found due to the ongoing investigation. It was unclear if the victims were shooting back.
Anyone with information was asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
