Gunman robs taxi driver, passenger and residents of nearby house in Rosemead; leaves gun behind

ROSEMEAD — A multi-tasking gunman robbed a taxi driver, his passenger and three people inside a nearby house early Thursday, but left his gun behind as he fled, authorities said.
The crimes were reported just after midnight in the 3200 block of Jackson Avenue, near Emerson Place, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Ignacio Somoano said.
The robber, initially described only as male and Latino, robbed the driver and passenger at gunpoint, the lieutenant said.
He then turned his attention to a nearby house, where he robbed three more people at gunpoint in a home-invasion, Somoano said.
The robber demanded money, wallets and a laptop computer before fleeing into the home’s backyard and jumping the wall, officials said.
A handgun was found in the backyard, apparently dropped by the suspect as he scaled the wall, Somoano added. The gun was turned over to crime lab investigators to examine for clues.
All the victims were adults, he said.
It was unclear if the taxi passenger was connected to the the home, Somoano said.
