Walnut woman pleads ‘not guilty’ in fatal Irwindale hit-and-run

A Walnut woman Wednesday pleaded not guilty to a charge of hit-and-run in connection with an Irwindale collision that left an 80-year-old Baldwin Park woman dead, officials said.
Ashley Lopez, 21, entered her plea in West Covina Superior Court, court officials said. She was ordered back to court Nov. 27 for a preliminary hearing.
She’s accused of fleeing the scene after fatally striking Cu Lee Nguyen as she crossed Live Oak and Stewart avenues in the early-morning hours Nov. 2.
Tips generated by the public through media coverage of the fatal incident led to the identification of Lopez as a suspect, police said.
According to county booking records, Lopez was released from jail Wednesday after posting $50,000 bail.
