BALDWIN PARK — A man was expected to survive after showing up at a Baldwin Park emergency room with three gunshot wounds Thursday afternoon, police said.
A 33-year-old Cerritos man arrived at an emergency room with gunshot wounds to his left thigh, buttocks and lower back shortly before 12:30 p.m., Baldwin Park police Sgt. Mark Harvey said.
The wounded man, who did not appear to be cooperating with police, told investigators he had been shot by someone in a passing vehicle at Garvey Avenue and Tracy Street, Harvey said.
But upon further investigation, officers determined the shooting actually took place around the corner in front of a home in the 3000 block of Via Delores, the sergeant said.
Spent handgun casings were found at the scene, along with unspent rifle ammunition, Harvey added. It was unclear where the un-fired rifle cartridges came from.
The shooter was initially described only as a male Asian armed with a handgun who was last seen running north along Baldwin Park Boulevard.
The motive and circumstances of the shooting remained under investigation, Harvey said, though detectives were looking into the possibility it was gang-related.
