Body found in car submerged in waters near San Gabriel Dam

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST — Detectives were summoned to the San Gabriel Dam Wednesday after a body was discovered inside a car several hundred feet over the side of the road and partially submerged in water, authorities said.
The crashed car first reported about 7:30 a.m. in the waters of the San Gabriel Reservoir, just off San Gabriel Canyon Road, according to California Highway Patrol logs. CHP officials initially described the car as a black, 1993, 4-door Nissan Maxima.
Rescuers and law enforcement officers called for a tow company to retrieve the vehicle and left the scene just before 9:30 a.m., Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. David Vega said.
Officials from Jan’s Towing called authorities back just after 1 p.m. after they discovered a body inside the car, he said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Brian Riley said firefighters were summoned to a report of a cardiac arrest at the location about 1 p.m., but were cancelled by sheriff’s officials upon arrival.
It was not immediately clear if the car went off the roadway and into the reservoir Wednesday, or if it had occurred earlier but was only noticed Wednesday due to a recent receding water level in the reservoir.
