Man accused of ramming sheriff’s patrol car in Walnut

WALNUT — A man was behind bars Saturday on suspicion of ramming his vehicle into a sheriff’s patrol car as deputies were trying to arrest him in connection with a battery case, authorities said.
Jason Patrick Maloney, 34, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and battery, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Angela Becerra said.
The incident began shortly before 11:45 p.m. Friday after deputies received a report of a battery at a convenience store in the 1300 block of Grand Avenue, officials said.
Responding deputies spotted the suspect — later identified as Maloney — driving nearby and approached him in an attempt to pull him over, Becerra said.
Before deputies could turn on their overhead lights to order the car to the side of the road, Maloney crashed the vehicle into a parked car, she said.
He then threw the car into reverse and rammed a patrol car occupied by two deputies in the 20000 block of Loyalton Drive, Becerra said.
Deputies took him into custody following a struggle that ended with Maloney being subdued with a Taser, officials said.
The deputies in the rammed patrol call were treated and released at a local hospital for injuries suffered in the collision.
Further details regarding the initial battery call were not available.
