Whittier police plan checkpoint

WHITTIER — Police will screen drivers late Saturday during a sobriety and drivers license checkpoint, officials said.
The checkpoint will be held from 7 p.m. through 3 a.m. Sunday morning at an undisclosed location within the city, Whittier police officials said in a written statement.
“Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment,” according to the statement. “Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily.
“When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving,” the statement continued.
Funding for the checkpoint is being provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
