El Monte teen arrested following police chase, crash

EL MONTE — El Monte police arrested a teenage driver early Sunday following a pursuit that ended when the fleeing car crashed into a warehouse in South El Monte, authorities said.
An officer tried to pull over a compact car for a traffic violation about 10 a.m. in the area of Maxson Road and Elliot Avenue, El Monte police Lt. Richard Kano said.
The driver led officers on chase, during which he crashed into a parked car, the lieutenant said.
When the pursuit reached the area of Santa Anita and Central avenues in South El Monte, the driver lost control and crashed into a warehouse, Kano said. The car sustained “moderate to major” damage, but the building was not believed to have sustained structural damage.
The driver, identified as a 17-year-old El Monte boy, was arrested on suspicion of felony evading of police, Kano said.
Another juvenile and a young adult who were passengers in the car were questioned but not arrested, he added.
