2,168 arrested for DUI in L.A. County during holiday crackdown

DUI arrests in the county were down this holiday season compared with last year, authorities said Wednesday.
Members of a multi-agency Los Angeles County DUI task force known as “Avoid the 100” arrested 2,168 people on suspicion of intoxicated driving during their 19-day holiday crackdown which ended Jan. 1, task force organizers said in a written statement.
Officials arrested 2,433 people on suspicion of DUI during last years crackdown, which was two days shorter than this year’s, officials said.
The California Highway Patrol arrested 1,273 intoxicated driving suspects in California between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Jan. 1 alone, according to the agency. Officers arrested 1,270 during the holiday weekend last year.
CHP officials reported 19 fatal crashes statewide between Friday evening and Tuesday night, compared with 25 last year.
