Officials: Officers stop man from jumping off bridge in Pasadena

PASADENA — Pasadena police convinced a 52-year-old suicidal man not to jump off the Colorado Street bridge Wednesday, officials said.
The incident shut down the bridge for seven and a half hours.
Lt. Pete Hettema said a driver saw a man outside the bridge’s south side and called police at 10:21 a.m.
Police shut down the bridge at 10:30 a.m. and started talking to the man. Pasadena firefighters were also at the scene.
At 5:39 p.m., Hettema said the man went back over the rail and was on the street side. He added that the man was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Police didn’t release the man’s name. The bridge was re-opened around 6 p.m.
Wednesday’s incident happened nearly two weeks after officers found a woman’s body under the bridge on Dec. 20. Authorities suspect the woman may have jumped to her death.
