ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST — Los Angeles County sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the discovery of what looked to be a shallow grave in the Angeles National Forest.
A hiker discovered the possible grave about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday along Big Tujunga Canyon Road north of Sunland, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials, who initially said the discovery was made early Wednesday.
“It appears the natural environment has been recently disturbed and investigators are excavating the site,” Panis said. “At this time, no human remains have been found.
Homicide detectives and crime lab officials were summoned to the scene.
The Los Angeles County Department of Coroner’s Special Operations Response Team, which handles the excavation of buried bodies, as well as mass casualty incidents and incidents involving hazardous materials, was also working at the scene, coroner’s Assistant Chief of Operations Ed Winter said.
