PASADENA — A Pasadena man who was wounded in the head in a shooting earlier this week died from his injuries Thursday, as two suspects were behind bars on suspicion of the fatal attack, authorities said.
Zane Goldstein, 21, died at a hospital from injuries he suffered in the shooting, which took place about 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chester Avenue and Maple Street, Pasadena police Lt. Tracey Ibarra said.
Meanwhile, detectives following up on the shooting Wednesday arrested two suspect: a 17-year-old boy and a man described only as an adult, Ibarra said.
The juvenile suspect’s name was not released because of his age, and the the name of the adult suspect was withheld due to the ongoing investigation, Ibarra said.
“We’re actually looking for other persons of interest,” she said.
Initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the shooting, police planned to seek murder charges against the two suspects when presenting the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, officials said.
The motive in the shooting was not released as the investigation continued, Ibarra said, however the Goldstein brothers were not believed to have gang ties, and investigators did not believe the shooting was gang-related.
Goldstein’s 24-year-old brother, Zachary Goldstein, was also treated for an injury police described as moderate, however it was unclear whether the injury was a result of the shooting.
The brothers drove away from a Holliston Avenue apartment about 2 p.m. and were followed by a tan vehicle, Pasadena police Deputy Chief Darryl Qualls said.
Minutes later, police received a call from a man reporting his brother had been shot.
As many as three attackers were believed to have been involved in the shooting, police said.
