Injured hiker rescued from forest north of Altadena

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST — Rescuers hoisted a hiker with a broken ankle from the Echo Mountain Trail north of Altadena Saturday, authorities said.
Members of the Altadena Search and Rescue Team were summoned about 10:15 a.m. to the trail, northeast of Lake Avenue and Loma Alta Drive in the Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Angela Shepherd said.
A 45-year-old hiker had fallen and broken his ankle and was unable to exit the wilderness, she said.
A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter retrieved the man and lifted him to Farnsworth Park in Altadena, Shepherd said. From there, the man elected to seek medical treatment on his own.
