Skateboarder killed in Norwalk hit-and-run

NORWALK — A 20-year-old Norwalk man died Saturday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding his skateboard, officials said.
Daniel Michael Ortiz died at the scene of the collision, which was first reported about 4:20 a.m. at Studebaker and Foster roads, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s officials.
No witnesses to the fatal-hit-and run had been located Sunday, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Greg Arnold said.
“We responded to the area on a rescue call — a person down in the street,” Arnold said. “Once we were there, we determined it was a person who had apparently been struck by a vehicle, and he was deceased at the location.”
It appeared the vehicle was northbound on Studebaker when it struck the skateboarder, who was crossing the road within a marked crosswalk, Arnold said.
“Debris indicated it’s a metallic blue vehicle,” he said. It was believed to have front-end damage.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Norwalk Station at 562-863-8711.
