Driver carjacked after pulling over to use cell phone in Pasadena

PASADENA — He was only trying to be safe.
But a man lost his minivan to a carjacker late Wednesday after pulling over to use his cell phone, police said.
The victim, a Los Angeles man in his 40s, was driving his white, 2002 Toyota Sienna about 10:45 p.m. when he pulled over to use his cell phone at Fair Oaks Avenue and Waverly Drive, Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson said.
“A male white approached him on foot, opened his car door, simulated a weapon and demanded his vehicle,” the lieutenant said. The carjacker appeared to be in his 20s and wore black clothing.
The driver complied, and the carjacker was last seen heading north on Pasadena Avenue, Clawson said.
