PASADENA — Police asked residents to stay in their homes for four hours Sunday as they searched a neighborhood for a parolee who ran from officers after assaulting his estranged girlfriend with a car, officials said. He was not found.
The incident began about 1 p.m. following a report of domestic violence in the 1500 block of Mentone Avenue, near Howard Street, Pasadena police Lt. Ed Calatayud said.
The man, whose name was known to police but not released Sunday afternoon, became involved in a dispute with his estranged girlfriend and ended up striking her with a car, the lieutenant said. She was hospitalized with a head injury that was not believed to be life-threatening.
The suspect, a local parolee, fled from officers on foot and was last seen heading north toward Stanton Street, where officers used a K-9 to conduct a yard-to-yard search, police said. There was no initial indication he was armed.
Nearby residents were asked to remain in their homes as the search continued through about 5 p.m., and others were advised to avoid the area if possible.
Officers ultimately called of the search without locating their quarry, Calatayud said. The investigation was ongoing.
