EAST LOS ANGELES — Detectives sought the public’s help Thursday in investigating two instructors from an East Los Angeles-based youth boot camp accused of abusing 11 children.
Edgar Alvarado, 36, and Ruben Romero Mora, 21, are instructors at Recon 180, “which is geared toward instilling leadership and self-discipline for teenagers through a paramilitary structured setting,” Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.
They are accused of continuously hitting and beating nine boys and two girls, ranging in age from 12 to 17, sheriff’s officials said. Alvarado is also accused of inappropriately touching one of the girls.
The alleged abuse took place between 2010 and 2012 at the organization’s headquarters in the 1000 block of Goodrich Boulevard in East Los Angeles, as well as their training facility in the mountains of the Angeles National Forest known as Camp Coulter, according to the sheriff’s statement.
