Investigators Thursday found and arrested a parolee in Rosemead suspected of shooting another man in the neck at a Covina mobile home park over the weekend, authorities said.
Jerry Joe Guerrero, 29, of Covina was arrested without a struggle and booked on suspicion of attempted murder after he was found shortly after 10 a.m. at the Palm Motel, 8463 Garvey Avenue, in Rosemead according to Covina police Lt. John Curley and Los Angeles County booking records. He was also being held on suspicion of violating parole.
The 23-year-old shooting victim, an El Monte resident, was hospitalized in stable condition and expected to survive following Sunday’s 10:50 p.m. shooting in the 1300 block of N. Citrus Avenue, police said. Investigators described him as an acquaintance of Guerrero.
The motive in the shooting remained under investigation, Curley said. Though Guerrero is a gang member, the victim is not, and the shooting was not believed to have been gang-related, Curley said.
Police had been seeking Guerrero since Sunday and had sent wanted flyers to other nearby law enforcement agencies, Curley said.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies from the sheriff’s Temple Station spotted Guerrero’s 1999 BMW parked outside the Palm Motel, he said.
“They immediately recognized that car as being associated with Jerry Guerrero, Curley said.
Officials learned Guerrero was staying in a room at the motel and took him into custody without a fight.
According to booking records, Guerrero, who was already on parole for a firearms offense, was being held without bail pending his initial appearance Monday in West Covina Superior Court.
