Investigation continues into death of bicyclist struck by car in Pasadena

PASADENA — The investigation continued Sunday into a collision between a car and bicyclist in front of Cal Tech that fatally injured the 25-year-old rider.
The name of the bicyclist killed in Saturday’s 5:30 p.m. crash on Del Mar Boulevard between Michigan and Wilson avenues was not released pending confirmation that his family had been notified, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said. He was listed as a resident of Los Angeles.
He was riding with another cyclist west along Del Mar Boulevard, Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson said.
“As he was riding, the vehicle struck him from behind,” the lieutenant said. “It launched him into another vehicle, a parked vehicle.”
The second bicyclist who accompanied the man was not struck, he said.
Paramedics took the badly injured rider to Huntington Hospital in Pasadena where he was pronounced dead a short time later, officials said.
Clawson said the cause of the collision had not been determined Sunday.
The Pasadena man who was driving the compact car that struck the bicyclist remained at the scene and, “cooperated with the investigation, which is still pending,” Clawson said. No arrests were initially made.
