No arrests made at Azusa Avenue police checkpoint

AZUSA — Police screened more than 1,000 cars that passed through an Azusa Avenue sobriety and driver license checkpoint late Saturday, yielding two unlicensed drivers but no intoxicated ones, officials said.
The checkpoint was was held beginning at 7 a.m. in the 800 block of South Azusa Avenue, just north of Arrow Highway, Azusa police Sgt. Andy Sutcliffe said.
Officers screened 1,029 of the 1,123 motorists who passed through the checkpoint, he said.
One driver was cited for driving without a license, officers cited and impounded the car of another driver for both being unlicensed and vehicle code violations approaching the checkpoint.
Several drivers were given field sobriety tests, but all passed, Sutcliffe said.
