Sisters accused of mutilating woman’s face during dispute at Covina nightclub

COVINA — Three sisters are accused of mutilating another woman’s face with a beer bottle during an argument at a bar early Sunday at a nightclub, authorities said.
Sisters Cynthia Carlin, 29, and Lisa Carlin, 25, both of Rancho Cucamonga, and their sister-in-law Melissa Carlin were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem in connection with the alleged attack, which took place about 1 a.m. at 3Vino’s, 201 N. Citrus Ave., Covina police Sgt. Rob Bobkiewicz said. Mayhem is defined legally as the intentional infliction of permanent disability or disfigurement on another person.
The alleged victim, a 37-year-old Long Beach woman, suffered a deep 4- to 5-inch long gash to her cheek, the sergeant said. She was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center for treatment.
“Apparently some altercation took place between the suspects and the female victim on the dance floor, some type of verbal argument,” the Bobkiewicz said. During the dispute, one of the sisters is accused of smashing the victim in the face with a beer bottle.
The altercation was believed to have erupted because the sisters felt the woman was dancing too closely to a man, officials said.
Police officers arrested the sister’s without incident at the nightclub, he added. Investigators were still looking into which one of the women wielded the bottle.
According to county booking records, Cynthia, Lisa and Melissa Carlin were each being held in lieu of $100,000 bail pending their scheduled arraignments Tuesday in West Covina Superior Court.
