Takeover robbery reported at Azusa jewelry store

AZUSA — Two armed men fled with about $60,000 worth of jewelry following a takeover-style robbery at an Azusa business Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The robbery occurred about 2:25 p.m. when two men, each armed with a handgun, barged into Don Roberto Jewelers, 173 E. Gladstone Street, Azusa police Sgt. John Madaloni said in a written statement.
Four women, ranging in ages from their 20s to their 50s, were working inside the store at the time, Acting Sergeant Andy Rodriguez said
“(The robbers) ordered one employee at gunpoint to open multiple secured display cases, while forcing the remaining employees into a back room,” Madaloni said. No injuries were reported.
The gunmen grabbed a “large amount” of jewelry and stuffed it into a bag before fleeing out the store’s front door, Madaloni said.
They got into a getaway car initially described only as a dark-colored, possibly black import, police said, which was last seen heading north on Azusa Avenue.
Police described on of the robbers as a white man between 20 and 25 years old with a tattoo on the side of his neck. A further description of the tattoo was not available.
The second robber was described as a black man between 20 and 25 years old with several upper body tattoos. The getaway driver was described only as a male.
Anyone with information was asked to contact Azusa police at 626-812-3200.
