NORWALK — An elderly Norwalk man avoided serious injury Wednesday after crashing his pickup truck through a cement wall on the second story of a parking structure, authorities said.
The crash took place just before 4 p.m. at a parking structure on Civic Center Drive, just east of Norwalk Boulevard, Los Angeles County sheriff’s and fire officials said.
WDN-L-NWKCRASH(02)An 82-year-old driver was ascending the parking structure in a Toyota pickup truck when he mistook the accelerator for the brake pedal, sheriff’s Lt. Bill Evans said.
The truck smashed through a concrete wall on the second floor of the parking structure, coming to a rest precariously perched on the edge of the structure.
Several large chunks of concrete fell to the ground below following the crash, however no one was hurt by the falling debris.
The driver of the truck was treated for injuries believed to be minor, Evans added.
Nothing criminal was initially suspected in what Evans said was being investigated as an accident.
