2nd UPDATE: Construction worker accused of arson in La Puente house fire

A construction worker is accused of setting a client’s home ablaze Thursday, damaging the house and killing a dog, authorities said.
Jeffrey Condrey, 36, of La Puente, was expected to be booked on suspicion of arson and attempted escape upon his release from the hospital, where he was being treated for apparently minor injuries suffered in the blaze, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials.
The fire was first reported at 12:24 p.m. at a single-story house in the 500 block of Sandsprings Drive, Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. David Chetwood said.
“As the fire was being extinguished, (Condrey) ran from the home,” Deputy Kim Manatt of the Sheriff’s Heaquarter’s Bureau said. “‘He was quickly detained by deputies and subsequently transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained from the fire.”
But once at the hospital, Condrey tried to flee and had to be re-captured by deputies, Manatt said.
No one else was believed to be at the home where the fire broke out, the captain said.
“It started in multiple parts of the house,” Chetwood said. The appeared to have erupted simultaneously in both the living room of the home, as well as an adjacent bedroom.
A medium-sized dog, estimated at 25 to 30 pounds, was found dead inside the bedroom, Chetwood said.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Arson-Explosives Detail teamed with firefighters in the investigation, he said.
Officials declined to discuss Thursday exactly how the fires were believed to have been started.
Firefighters doused the flames within 20 minutes, officials said.
Sheriff’s officials said the fire caused more than $75,000 worth of damage to the home. A motive was not clear.
