PASADENA — Police are planning five afternoons of “active shooter training” for officers next week at Washington Middle School, authorities said.
The training, which will involved the use of simulated ammunition, will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the school, 1505 N. Marengo Avenue, Pasadena police officials said in a written statement.
“First responders will work through mock active shooter scenarios that simulate the realistic problems associated with emergency response and the management of these high risk and dynamic situations,” according to the police statement.
The campus office will remain open for business, though school is not in session, officials said. Public access to the school will be restricted.
“The Pasadena police and fire departments and Pasadena Unified School District are committed to maintaining community safety, especially in our schools,” Pasadena Police Chief Phillip Sanchez said. “Training scenarios like this are essential for preparedness.”
