Man critically wounded in Pico Rivera deputy-involved shooting

PICO RIVERA — Sheriff’s deputies shot and critically wounded a man who officials said was inside a car that charged toward a deputy early Sunday.
The shooting took place about 12:30 a.m. on Rosemead Boulevard near Shenandoah Avenue, just south of Whittier Boulevard, Sgt. Harry Drucker of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau said in a written statement.
Two deputies were patrolling when they spotted a man using spray paint to write on a wall on the west side of Rosemead Boulevard, he said. When the deputies approached the alleged tagger, he fled into a nearby car with three other men already inside.
“Despite orders from the deputies to stop, the vehicle drove directly at one of the deputies, at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” Drucker said.
“One suspect was struck in the upper torso and is in critical condition at a local hospital,” he said. “A second suspect sustained minor injuries from flying broken glass.”
It was not clear Sunday morning whether the man wounded by gunfire was the driver of the car or a passenger.
All four men were detained, officials said, however their identities or the potential charges they face were not available.
Neither of the deputies, whose named were not released, were injured in the incident, Drucker said.
No further information was released.
