Trial to begin for man accused of fatally stabbing wife, wounding sister-in-law near San Gabriel

ALHAMBRA — Trial is scheduled to begin Monday in the case of a Los Angeles man accused of fatally stabbing his estranged wife and seriously wounding her sister two years ago at the women’s home near San Gabriel.
Sherman Dorsey, 42, is charged with murder for the fatal stabbing of Gina Reano, 45, and the wounding of her sister, Aug. 3, 2011, in the 5500 block of Walnut Grove Avenue, in an unincorporated county area just east of San Gabriel.
Following hearings on motions this week, court officials said jury selection in the case was expected to begin Monday in Alhambra Superior Court.
Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call from the surviving sister when they encountered the two women and Dorsey, who was also bleeding from self-inflicted stab wounds, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.
Dorsey and his wife were estranged, but had been working toward patching up their relationship, when the incident occurred, officials added.
According to county booking records, Dorsey remained jailed in lieu of $2.07 million bail.
