WHITTIER — A pedestrian was killed Thursday when he ran across a street and got hit by a vehicle, police said.
Authorities have not released the man’s name pending notification of his family, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Assistant Chief of Operations Ed Winter said. He was initially described as a Whittier man in his 50s.
The incident in the 12200 block of Washington Boulevard was reported to police at 8:43 p.m.
Lt. Jay Tatman said the driver didn’t see the pedestrian before the collision.
He said officers gave first aid to the injured man.
“We tried to save him,” Tatman said.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
