A person died Sunday at the scene of a big rig crash on the westbound 210 Freeway in Irwindale, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 12:05 p.m. on the freeway just east of Irwindale Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said.
It was initially believed to involve on a single big-rig that ended up going over the side of the road, he said.
CHP logs indicated witnesses reported seeing the truck, which was hauling PVC piping, swerving in the No. 3 lane prior to crashing.
A description of the dead person was not available.
Officials shut down the right hand lane of the westbound 210 Freeway, as well as the Irwindale offramp, as they investigated the scene, Villalobos said.
The cause of the crash was being investigated by officers from the Baldwin Park office of the CHP.
